I’ve been busy trying to do something crazy, hence the lack of WotLK pictures. Needless to say, beta is pretty sweet. The Death Knight seems like a great class, though recent balance issues (they’re damage has been way overpowered) make it hard to accurately judge the class.

I will note, however, that the starting area is one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had playing World of Warcraft. Every quest tells a part of your story (yes you actually have one now!) and is really fun, and a bit evil. :D

Apart from that, I’ve been doing some rather unconventional things lately.

One such thing: I installed Guild Wars. I’ve just been itching to play video games against other people. Despite my WoW addiction, I generally don’t get much joy out of beating a computer opponent; I’d much rather defeat a player. Why? Dynamics.

To me, a good game has good dynamics. I’m talking about dynamics within the game’s systems, not the dynamic of change in the game’s systems (though that is surely important too). In World of Warcraft PvP, there just aren’t good dynamics.

Guild Wars, however, has always had a great PvP dynamic. Especially given the interpretation of this dynamic by the community. Characters engaging in organized PvP battles understand and manipulate dynamics of: pressure; support; damage spiking; energy management; damage mitigation and healing; and detail these dynamics by creating the categories of backline, midline, and frontline. This depth of play just doesn’t exist any part of World of Warcraft except perhaps raids against computer opponents, which I’ve already explained I don’t like.

I’m still very new to the Guild Wars experience, and the PvP component has such depth that it will take a while to become proficient with. I’ll keep you posted.

Oh, and James Bond movies are the shit. Revisiting the old ones – Diamonds Are Forever!

Wrath

Through a good friend of mine I have just received an account with access to the World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King beta test! I’m pretty excited and after I finish this heroic I’m going to install the beta files and create a death knight character.

Hopefully in a few hours I will have some screenshots up on this site, along with my first impressions!
