trailer trash

I have recently been turned on to this ridiculous Canadian comedy series called Trailer Park Boys. I’ve been told it airs occasionally on Comedy Central, though I have not verified this information; I do know that a number of my friends have heard of the show and a few have seen all six seasons so it must be getting exposure in the US somewhere.

The characters are surprisingly dynamic and develop quite a bit through each season. These developments take place amidst borderline absurd exaggerations of life in a trailer park, but I honestly don’t see how anyone could be put off by it – you’ll be laughing too hard. Piss jugs and “Kittyland” is all I really have to say.

It’s refreshing to watch a show and realize you can’t pin any one of the characters in an archetypical ‘TV’ role, due in part to the weird quirks each possesses. One guy is never on camera without a cocktail in his hand, even when he’s driving or even robbing someone at gunpoint. Another has personality laden speaking mannerisms and what can only be described as goggles (glasses would just not suffice…), to the point where I can’t help but laugh every time he talks.

I could go on, but I would suggest checking it out for yourself by whatever means you download and watch television. I’m not your mother, find it yourself! :P

Oh and you should probably ask yourself if you can handle excessive marijuana, drinking (and driving), and sex references, along with a healthy dose of vulgar language before you spend the time tracking it down. Oh, and I had to do it… because of the title… not sure about the visual content, but the sound quality was better in this one…

chuck.

I just watched the season two premiere on nbc.com.

First, I really hope more shows get support for online viewing. The day when home computing really merges with home entertainment is going to be a good day indeed. In fact, all of the tools to do that are pretty much in place. A big TV and surround sound speakers plugged into a computer with Windows Vista and a TV tuner card will have you well on your way to integrated home entertainment. The best part of online television viewing has to be commercials. When one comes on, not only is it interactive – I can click on links within the commercial to learn more about the product if I’m interested – but if I don’t want to deal with it, I can just press the mute button on my keyboard and check my email or update my Facebook.

At some point in the future, I expect the lines between computer, television, and internet will become nonexistant. At least, I hope so.

Second, the season premiere was pretty good. I enjoyed the first season, though it was slightly marred by the writers’ strike so I was pretty excited for this new season. Yvonne Strahovski remains ever gorgeous. Chuck as a character is developing to my satisfaction, desiring to end his responsibilities with the CIA while at the same time becoming a better spy. I just hope that he continues to develop down that path; it gets old when he’s always freaking out and screwing up – this episode he made a convincing spy move that was full of that Chuck-like humor every episode seems to have.
